"Come
step back in time"
Calvert Cottage was built in
1898, in the nurturing woods of Mt. Gretna,
Pennsylvania
. The
Mt.
Gretna
community is composed of five different areas: the Chautauqua,
Campmeeting, Mt.Gretna
Heights, Timber Hills and Conewago Hills.
Calvert Cottage is located in the
Chautauqua, where the residents and visitors enjoy summers
filled with the arts. At the turn of this century, the
Chautauqua movement spread culture, entertainment and spiritual
insight among communities across the country. This continues
today in the beautiful woodland of
Mt.
Gretna
.
This
little community is a notch in the
South Blue Ridge Mountains
and is not only a center for culture, but also for recreation,
education and enjoyment of the outdoors. Calvert Cottage is
within walking distance of Lake Conewago, Rails to Trails (3000
acres of state game lands for hiking and biking),
The Jigger Shop ( an outside old fashion soda fountain),
miniature golf course, roller skating rink, three local
restaurants and the Mt. Gretna Theater ( the oldest outside
playhouse on the east coast). The
Gretna
Playhouse is home of both a summer stock program and a leading
summer musical festival. The Chautauqua’s Philosophy Hall
offers book reviews, Friday night lectures, yoga,
and art classes.
